•    Description:  Recent developments, including testing and analysis, have resulted in an increased understanding of the pull-out strength of screws installed in screw chases in aluminum extrusions. One pull-out strength design method (known as the “A-T” equation) has been in use in the curtain wall industry. It utilizes the relevant pull-out equation, from among those for tapped holes in the Aluminum Design Manual (ADM). Recent testing has revealed a compelling need for an improved approach to better predict pull-out strengths. This article compares test results to corresponding predicted values using the A-T equation and presents an improved equation, which will be published in the updated ADM in 2020.
