Summary: The most influential men in the history of aluminum in Europe resided in France from 1860-1917. These men were responsible for the discovery and transformation of the aluminum electrolitic process and the subsequent expansion of the aluminum industry in Europe during the 20th century. Much of the early work centered in the Rhone-Alpes and the Pyrénées. Further development, particularly of Pechiney AP cells stemmed from laboratory research at St-Jean-de-Maurienne. This article takes a complete look at the history and development of the aluminum industry in France.
