•    Title:  Aluminum Two Thousand: Analyzing the Effect of Automated Die Polishing on Extruded Aluminum Profile Quality

•    Volume:  Vol. 73, No. 5

•    Year:  2015

•    No. Pages:  2

•    Description:  An alternative to manual polishing is Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM), an automated, machine-based polishing technique that reduces uneven bearing surface wear, especially for close-tolerance complex passages of dies, which are inaccessible with manual polishing techniques. This article presents a case study that addresses extrusion efficiency performance, comparing the use of AFM die polishing with a manual process. It analyzes the die failure intervals and die wear properties with time, as well as provides some comments on the reduction of die correction.
