One of two articles in the October 2007 issue of Light Metal Age that was originally presented at the conference "Latest Advances in Extrusion Technology and Simulation in Europe and Extrusion Benchmark" held September 20-21 in Bologna, Italy. This paper proposes that research in the extrusion industry has to focus on customer satisfaction and reduction of cost, and that customer satisfaction is achieved by delivering the quality demanded in technical and logistical terms. The author also describes a Six Sigma approach and employs Pearson's chi-square test.
