Summary: 2011 is the 125th anniversary of the birth of the modern aluminum smelting process, known as the Hall-Heroult process. Oberlin College in Ohio began the celebration of Charles Martin Hall and the process for electrochemical refining of aluminum with a series of events on February 23rd, including a keynote speech called "Aluminum: The Miracle Metal," by Kevin Anton, vice president and chief sustainability officer of Alcoa. In celebration of Hall's invention, Alcoa is initiating a series of events and activities to recognize the achievement and influence of aluminum, including a donation of $10,000 to Oberlin's Green EDGE Fund.
