•    Title:  Characterization of the Aging Behavior and the Formability of 6xxx Al Alloys for Automotive Applications

•    Volume: Vol. 72, No. 5

•    Year: 2014

•    No. Pages:  4

•    Description:  This article looks at a high strength variant of EN AW-6016 that was developed (EN AW-6061HS). Through optimization of the chemical composition within the alloy specification and the optimization of the thermomechanical processing schedule, the authors determined that is was possible to achieve good formability together with higher strength after the painting process. The new alloy is characterized with respect to its age hardening ability and formability and can be a replacement for other 6xxx sheet alloys widely used in automotive structures. This article was originally published in German in Erzmetall/World of Metallurgy, Vol. 66, No. 1, Jan.-Feb., 2013, pp. 44-50, and is republished here with permission in English, with translation provided by Joseph C.
