This article presents the new technologies developed at Zhongfu smelter, which are making China a world leader in primary aluminum technology. Achievements include: China's first 320 kA potline series achieving lowest energy consumption in the world; resolution of the technical and economic issues associated with stopping and restarting cells for repair; development and operation of the first industrial 400 kA aluminum production potline in the world; and the initiation of new research projects to further reduce energy consumption.
