Summary: The use of aluminum and magnesium in automotive manufacturing will increase in the future due to the increased demand for fuel economy and lightweighting. This article looks at the developments in manufacturing processes, including casting (vacuum die casting and low pressure die casting), sheet forming (warm forming and preform annealing), assembly technologies (hemming and resistance spot welding), tube hydroforming, and material cost, performance, and design.
