Description: This New Equipment Spotlight showcases Hydro's new generation of inline melt refining units, the Hycast I-60 Siphon Inert Reactor (SIR). The I-60's new drain-free reactor is raised above the launder level. Using a drain-free reactor, metal is drained back to the furnace or can be drained into the caster at the end of the cast as a fully automatic operation. The I-60 is fully automated and the operational costs are low. The new unit has been installed at Hydro casting facilities at Sunndal Norway; Deeside, England; SorNorge Aluminium and Hoyanger, Norway; Azuqeca, Spain; Kurri Kurri, Australia; and Hydro's second remelt facility in the U.S. in Commerce, Texas.
