Description: This New Equipment Spotlight covers the latest technology in coatings used for aiding aluminum extrusion. Paintable boron nitride coatings are recognized as an improvement over carbon-based products for high-temperature lubrication and anti-sticking in the aluminum extrusion process. Hydro St. Augustine is currently operating five extrusion presses. All five have already converted to water-based boron nitride paints, and one press will shortly begin the move towards using electrostatic boron nitride powder spray. The Hydro installations illustrate the evolution of aluminum extrusion lubricants from graphite-carbon-based systems to water-based boron nitride plants, and now to electrostatic powder sprayed boron nitride.
