Title: New Product Spotlight: Simulation of Material Flow Through Aluminum Extrusion Dies
Issue #: Vol. 61, No. 7,8
Year: 2003
# of Pages: 1
Description: This New Product Spotlight examines the collaboration between international die maker Compes S.p.A., Italy, and U.S. industrial software maker Altair, which resulted in advancements to the die design capabilities of Altair's HyperXtrude software for aluminum extrusion. HyperXtrude was introduced in 1999 to help extruders determine optimal processing conditions. In 2001, Compes, with Altair, embarked upon a research and development program at the Engineering Dept. for Mechanical, Aeronautical, Nuclear, and Metallurgical Manufacturers (D.I.E.M.) at the University of Bologna in Italy. The experience of companies who design and manufacture extrusion dies such as Compes can be effectively combined and leveraged by means of simulation software like Altair HyperXtrude. It can provide die designers and manufacturers with drastically useful information in order to get optimal results without performing time consuming and expensive die trials.
