• Description: This article presents directions for ongoing research in the development of production technologies and new types of aluminum and aluminum alloy wire rod. The first focus of research is for wire suitable for the manufacturing of high temperature electrical conductors, which allows for increasing the current carrying capacity of power lines. The second area of research is for wire used in the manufacture of overhead conductors resulting in the reduction of current losses. Overhead wires with low resistance are a modern solution that mees the requirements for improving the energyefficiency of electrical appliances.
