•    Description:  Screw chases in aluminum extrusions are used to secure glass lites in curtain walls and skylights and other applications. Screws are installed perpendicular to the extrusion’s length and resist outward wind pressure applied to a glass lite orother infill. This loading produces tension in the screw and the connection may fail, either by tensile failure of the screw itself, stripping the screw’s external thread, or by stripping the internal thread formed by the screw in the chase. This article presents insights revealed through testing conducted to determine which parameters affect strength, including the chase shape and dimensions.
